48 Hours in Berlin

Last minute trips are always a yes, I even missed a day of uni. (Badass) With so much to see in so little time, Berlin definitely did not disappoint. Well, it was absolutely *freezing* so I am so glad I purchased a faux fur bomber from Primark just before we set off! I felt all so toasty!

Whilst we were away, and the whole reason for this spontaneous trip was to celebrate Lawrence's birthday. We both had such a good time. (Sightseeing + eating = perfect holiday!) So with a tight schedule, we saw all the main things we wanted to see, apart from an underground bar, we could not find any of those.

Berlin has thousands of sights to see and is jam packed with history. It was so interesting to see all the different memorials, monuments and museums (ooo alliteration) that Berlin had to offer, and all this sightseeing paid off in my favour as we study Berlin memorials in one of units at University.

Of course, one of our most anticipated visit was the Berlin wall, and on the day we visited (also the day Trump was elected) was the anniversary of when the Berlin wall came down. Some of the wall still remain, which has become an open air gallery of graffiti of political and controversial views.

On our educational travels (geeks) we visited Museum Island, Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg  Gate, Reichstag Building, The memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe and The Berlin Jewish Museum. Phew! It was nice to just wander and find the differences between the East and West Germany. (The men on the traffic lights are different in the west.) With coffee and snack stops, it was my perfect day of sight seeing.

With a trip to Berlin, and with our hotel quite close by, we had a trip to the Berlin Zoo. I am always 50/50 about zoo's as I think about the huge Tigers and Lions and how they would rather be in the wild. I really enjoyed the aquarium part of the zoo, apart from the Ant mines that are in tubes on the roof, I just kept imagining if they fell and all the ants would be everywhere. Eurgh. I would recommend the zoo if you had time to spare whilst in Berlin, it was nice to see the Deer and Zebra's roaming around.

After reading a few blog posts prior to visiting Berlin, The Monkey Bar popped up a few time as a great place to go with amazing views. We tried to book online earlier in the day for it to say there was no seats in the restaurant, Neni, so we decided to chance it and go in and see if they had a spare table for us. They amazingly fitted us in and we had UHmazing burgers and hummus and pitta (which came in really cute little bags.) The views were amazing, and then we popped across to Monkey Bar and had a cocktail each and looked over lit up Berlin. The atmosphere was so chilled and relaxing and exactly what I expected from Berlin.

The hotel we stayed in was Hotel Quentin Berlin, the beds were amazingly comfy and there was even a BUTTON that opened and closed the curtains automatically. I mean, how fancy can you get?

So, to anyone thinking of planning a trip to Berlin. 100% DO IT. Culture, history and great food!
